Earlier when I heard something about ancient Greece or
Rome. On various philosophical trends. It all seemed to me quite old, useless
and very boring. I imagined that people of the past often lived quite
differently from my contemporaries, had a different life position and views on
different situations. However, under the pressure of circumstances, I had
to change my mind.
Sometimes it happens in life that a person can fail in several directions at
once. And so it happened, and in the light of recent events, I think that I am
not alone.
My loved ones got sick. Because of this, problems began at work and school
(everything depends on each other). And one day, when everything seemed to be
at an impasse, I realized that there was no one to blame for the current
situations, no one to complain to. You need to take for granted what happened
and with a cool head begin to solve problems based on a single goal. Get out of
a bad situation with the least loss.
Thus, little by little, the situation began to improve. I restored my
reputation, relations with loved ones, at work and school, things began to
improve again. But I nevertheless made an important conclusion: Sometimes
circumstances are stronger than us and we cannot influence them. I cannot just
ask the whole world to wait for me if I am sick and do not have time to finish
my projects. I cannot demand from people a good attitude if they hoped for me,
and I let them down. I cannot be strong, polite, punctual all the time.
There
are situations when you cannot behave in such a way as to please everyone. I
have to choose what to do in this situation.
And so in all areas. At the moment, some time has already passed and I can look
back. And I understand that the idea to change my attitude to the situation was
not invented yesterday. And this is one of the basic postulates of the Stoic
philosophy. Of course, no one would want to have such an experience, everyone
dreams of a calm measured life, without losses and failures.
But our world is
unlikely to ever change. If not changed since ancient times. And therefore,
some advice and wisdom is worth listening to. Since they are in spite of their
age, and some are more than two thousand years old, these thoughts have not
lost their relevance.
Many people
oppose their interests with the opinions of others. Others try to fill the void
inside by acquiring many unnecessary things or dissolve in momentary pleasures.
Others, on the contrary, try to get rid of the excess, which in their opinion
interferes with the achievement of the goal, diverts or pulls to the bottom.
We must make
choices all the time in order to achieve something. I am reminded of a TV show
in which the smartest students aged 11 to 14 are interviewed and many tell how
they have succeeded. In almost all of the children, intelligence and memory
manifested itself at a very young age - by the age of 2-3, many already knew
how to read and write.
But among them
there was one girl of 12 years old and her story was special.
Unlike other
children, she did not shine with a strong intellect at 3 years old or an
outstanding memory. She only learned to read at the age of 6 and went to school
a little earlier than 7 years old. A little later, at the age of 8, she was
already able to multiply several significant numbers in her mind and solve
equations. A year later, she defended the honor of the school in the city
Olympiad, and later won the intercity Olympiad in mathematics. But she talks
about herself very modestly and connects her greatest success not with her
innate ability, but with the fact that she was not sprayed on everything. She
was aware of when to rest and when to work. She set herself a goal, got rid of
unnecessary things and won.
And I agree with
this idea, every time we spray our lives with anger, despair or envy, we try to
change everything around us, but we do not change ourselves. Because of this,
the energy that could be useful to us is wasted to improve our situation.
Let's
listen to old thoughts that have not lost their relevance.
